Known for timeless songs like ' God is working' ,Crazy Love ,Closer,Bongo Worship and many others, celebrated Ghanaian reggae might and gospel singer Akesse Brempong on 12th November, 2019 released his third studio album titled Heal Our Land.
The album which comes after his ' songs in the night ' and ' west hills live ' released in 2014 and 2017 respectively is a 13 track album which tells the tales of two cities i.e. Kumasi and Accra.
Featuring Bernard Franklin and French songstress Simiane, Akesse Brempong together with his "Tribe Of Judah" team after touring two cities with their annual ' Agape Carnival ' have churned out an album that has all songs being recorded live making it an expensive album looking at how much it cost to get an album recorded live in Ghana. Hence the question;
IS AKESSE BREMPONG'S HEAL OUR LAND WORTH BUYING?
Well,my opinion is very simple and a big YES ,with the reasons being that,unlike other albums especially gospel albums that are cut out for certain group of people, the HEAL OUR LAND album has songs that will fit in the playlist of any lover of any form of gospel music, from reggae to afropop to worship to contemporary gospel to hymns and even lover of Pentecostal music.
Also ,unlike other gospel albums where the album is predictable, where one can predict how the album is just by listening to at least three songs on the album which will probably end with an instrumental or worship version of one popular song on the album, the writers of the songs on the album brought out their best in making sure the title of the album is exhausted from almost every angle.
From speaking to critical issues like drug abuse with 'No Weed ' to praying for the land with songs like heal our land and The Prayer ' to songs of encouragement like Alright, Oyeadieye which I believe is targeted to the downhearted in the society to well written worship and praise songs like Wonderful, Ehi,worthy,You Found Me and my favorite song on the album titled Hosanna To The King, a song I describe as one of the best gospel songs to come out of Ghana in the last decade. Without leaving out Spontaneous Worship 1&2,a 15 minutes medley of popular worship songs sung in mostly churches like The Church Of Pentecost .
As a music lover and a follower of Ghana's gospel music, I will definitely recommend Akesse Brempong's 'HEAL OUR LAND' album to anyone interested in buying an album which is worth it's price.
(NB: THIS OPINION IS NOT BASED ON THE TECHNICALITIES INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION OF THE ALBUM BUT BASED ON MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS AFTER LISTENING TO THE ALBUM )
